EQUI-KIDS raises $41,800 for special needs riders
May 14, 2014
EQUI-KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program hosted their 12th Annual 5k Cross Country Run, 1-Mile Run with the Hounds, and ½ Mile Pony Run for the Kids on Saturday, May 10, 2014. This year’s event raised the most in its history, and with one of the only cross country courses in Hampton Roads, this event continues to grow in notoriety and participation. Proceeds from the cross country runs support the organization’s mission to provide equine assisted activities to individuals with disabilities in Southeast Virginia and Northern North Carolina.
“This year was by far the most energetic crowd to date! We were thrilled to have the support of so many in the community as we celebrated the 12th anniversary of this very special event.” commented Jill Haag, Executive Director. “To top off the day with a check presentation from We Promise Foundation for $43,500 to fund our program scholarships, as well as a check for $5,000 from Team Hoyt to fully cover our summer camp series made the event even more special.”
EQUI-KIDS is proud to recognize presenting sponsor, Monarch Bank, as well as event sponsors Capital Group Companies, Endurance IT Services, Beach Commercial Finance, Watson Electrical, HAV, Inc., Southeast Virginia Community Foundation, USA Discounters, Body Logic, Sentara, Dominion Capital Partners, Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists, Beach Ford, Farm Bureau Live Premium Seats, Optima, Pender & Coward, Strawbridge Animal Care, The Real Estate Group – Cheralyn Whetstone, State Farm Insurance – Brett Pendergast and Western Branch Diesel.
This signature event fundraiser supports EQUI-KIDS’ mission to provide, promote and support equine assisted activities for individuals who have mental, physical, emotional, social or learning disabling conditions; giving special needs riders the opportunity to experience a world free from disability.
Founded in 1989, EQUI-KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program has grown to become one of the largest accredited equine riding programs in the country benefiting the special needs community. We provide equine-assisted activities to a diverse group of riders each week and our programs offer support to individuals with disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, amputation, mental and physical disabilities, attention deficit disorder and more. EQUI-KIDS has made a life-changing difference in the lives of hundreds of children in Hampton Roads. For more information, visit
