Lesson Volunteer: Program Information and Sidewalker training
(2 hours)
Part 1: The first 45 minutes will provide you with additional information about the EQUI-KIDS mission, programs, riders and opportunities for you to assist in the many aspects of our therapeutic riding facility. EQUI-KIDS is committed to offering therapeutic services to the special needs individuals in Hampton Roads. During the training we will discuss the many benefits therapeutic riding provides to our students. One of the most important volunteer positions in our program is the Volunteer Sidewalker. Each lesson requires the support of up to 15 sidewalkers to ensure our students receive the support needed to have a safe and educational lesson.
Part 2: The remaining time of the training is dedicated to the role and responsibilities of the Sidewalker. The training consists of hands on training in a mock lesson. Training will introduce you to the EQUI-KIDS rider, safety information and proper sidewalker techniques. This training is presented by a NARHA Certified Riding Instructor. (*dress appropriately including boots or sound shoes, no sandals or flip flops permitted)

EQUI-KIDS utilizes suggested techniques and equipment as set forth by the NARHA Premier Accredited Center guidelines, which may be different from your prior experience with horses.
