EQUI-KIDS is home to a beautiful herd of horses who are housed in a 24-stall barn on our 92-acre property. While some of the horses belong to EQUI-KIDS, most are on loan to us from their generous owners. Each week our team of dedicated horses provides equine-assisted activities and therapeutic services to a diverse group of participants.

Sponsorship opportunities are available to help support the day-to-day care of our wonderful herd.

Piper

Piper is a striking black and white paint who LOVES to be scratched. She is on loan to us from her owner, who rescued Piper and gave her lots of love and attention. Piper worked as a trail riding and lessons pony before joining our farm and becoming a therapy horse!

Cannoli

Cannoli

I’m a Halflinger pony that was rescued from a kill pen auction by my current owner who rehabbed me back to health. Then I began working as a dressage lesson pony before coming to EQUI-KIDS on loan as a therapy pony. I am in my 20s and going strong!

Diesel

Diesel

I am a Spotted Draft and quite the handsome fella among my fellow herd members. I am curious and have a playful personality, but I love my job as a therapy horse at EQUI-KIDS. I used to do Eventing, but I would much rather spend time with my participants at the farm.

Gatsby

I am a Fresian / Morgan Cross. I’m one of the youngest herd members, and my playful personality makes me a fan favorite in the barn. I used to Fox Hunt, Trail Ride, and dance my way across a Dressage arena.

Hamilton

Hamilton

I’m a 13-year-old Cleveland Bay. I have been with my owner since I was 3 years old. She rode me as a hunter and showed me locally. Now that she is raising her young kids, she has graciously loaned me to EQUI-KIDS to be a therapy horse. As a large horse, I am able to easily work with participants both big and small.

Cody

Cody was donated to our farm from a private owner. He is a flashy, attention-loving quarter horse, and is one of our equine artists who painted a special picture for the 2025 Stall Ball! Cody is known for doing anything asked of him, but he hates getting Desitin (sunscreen) rubbed on his nose.

Jill

I’m a draft mule and former trail horse from North Carolina. I love being the only mule at EQUI-KIDS! My song is a little different than the others, but that’s ok. It’s what makes me unique, that and my super cute fuzzy ears!

Kaycee

I am a Quarter Horse cross, and my prior career was performing in the Hunter/Jumper arenas. I am a sweet-natured boy who is gentle, kind, and patient. I’m on the smaller side, but I can still keep up with the big kids on the farm.

Kidd

Kidd

I am a Quarter Horse Cross who used to do a lot of trail riding and camping adventures. I can be inquisitive and playful, and my favorite thing to do is see if the guests at EQUI-KIDS can tell me apart from Jellybean. We get confused as twins! I love my job and work in all areas of the program.

Mandy

I am an American Minature Horse and I’d like to think I’m the boss mare at the farm.  Those larger horses don’t have anything on me!  My son is Pepper and we both work in the program assisting in the therapeutic riding lessons and mental health programs.  I’m sweet and sassy and love it when folks come to visit.

Pepper

I’m the cutest American Minature Horse there ever was!  Don’t let my small stature fool you, I’m just as hard-working as the big guys and gals in the barn.  I help out in therapeutic riding lessons and mental health programs.  Mandy is my mom and the two of us are a mighty mini pair.

Summer

My owners moved to the Virginia Beach area to work at the VB Mounted Patrol. They wanted me to have a job, so they found the perfect place for me here at EQUI-KIDS! I’m a paint cross and I’m 14 years old, and my participants have written poems about our work together.

Jusino

Jusino is new to the farm, and he goes by “JJ” for short. He retired from the Virginia Beach Mounted Patrol and came to EQUI-KIDS for his next phase of life. JJ has a very calm presence and quiet demeanor, making friends with everyone on the farm. He also showcases his talents as an artist and painted a painting for our 2025 Stall Ball auction!

Teddy

I’m a red-headed Quarter horse standing tall at 16.1 hands. I was purchased by my previous owner from a trail riding facility in North Carolina. They generously donated me to EQUI-KIDS because they felt I could serve a higher purpose. I have become a very valuable member of the EQUI-KIDS herd.

Titan

I’m as dashing as they come!  Don’t let my size intimidate you as I’m a sweet and gentle fella.  I love my job at the farm and I’m able to assist both children and adults.  My speed is more whoa than go and I can help my riders build confidence as they learn to ride a larger horse.

Zeus

I am a Black Percheron from Amish country. I came to the farm in the spring of 2025 from a produce farm, and have loved learning to become a therapy horse. I’m 15 years old and love working with my participants. This is the life for me!

Thor

I am a Black Percheron from an Amish logging farm. I’m 14 years old, over 17 hands tall, and over 1700 pounds! Shortly after I came to EQUI-KIDS, my caretakers in the barn found a deep wound infection that needed medical care, and I spent 2 weeks at NC State to get surgery and heal. I was brought here to help adults and older children in our programs, but first I needed my own help and healing to become a hero to our participants.
